Getting Organized

Hey everyone hope your Holiday's were fantastic!! Now that the new year is here and I am moved in to my new craft/work space I wanted to share with you my two FAVORITE finds for organzing your supplies.

#1 I have been searching FOREVER for great ribbon storage because well I have a LOT of ribbon to store. I happen to be at Roberts Crafts in St. George Ut over the holidays and came across this perfect organizer I have 45 yes I said 45 rolls on the top and 54 clips of ribbon on the bottom. That is a TON of ribbon stored right where I can see it! Now of course that is not all of my ribbon but it works for a majority of it ... If I could just find another spot for another one :)

Next is the best way I have found (so far) to store everything from lettering to rhinestones to stickers and more. Everything clips on and spins so you can find just what you need. I have clipped 2-3 things on each clip and it comes with dividers so you can organize them ( which I have yet to do-not sure if I will ever get to that but it is a great idea) I have put a ton of stuff on it and there is still LOTS of room left. You can ad a top tier to it also, but that does not work for some of us vertically challenged people.

Better than Christmas Morning!!

Oh how we LOVE Christmas Card Swap! We are like little kids in a candy store! More than once in the night did we all here, "It's the best day of the year!"

The ornaments were so amazingly handmade with extreme detail and a lot of love. Each one of the girls made extra ornaments that were placed on a tree to be given to a very deserving family. We love sharing the sprit of Card Swap! Enjoy the pictures and the story " 'Twas the night before Card Swap" written by Button.

‘Twas the night before Card Swap and all through the room,

the stress was as high as the bright midnight moon.

The stockings weren’t hung they were still in the attic!

because Card Swap was coming putting life in a panic.

The kids are going wild like Monkeys in a tree,

And our Husbands are saying, “You spent HOW MUCH money?”

And yet—there we sit in our Jammies - our hair in a bustle

cutting and gluing in a really big hustle!

The WHOLE WORLD is now waiting until Card Swap is through.

NO laundry --- NO cooking --- “NO whoopee for you!”

And just when the pressure seems it is going to burst

You finish and say, “Mine’s going to be the worst!!”

But you pack up those cards and you head on your way

And sometimes even wonder if there’ll be drama that day.

But as soon as your feet step through that door

It’s as if magic sparkles fall down to the floor.

And with them they take all the worries and care

and all we can see is creative flair.

The laughter, the snorting, the stories, the tears,

Now THAT’S why we’ve been here so many years.

It’s not the stress or the cards or the hullabaloo

It’s that sprinkle of magic you find with so few.

Ya know it’s funny, our journey. It’s brought us to eight.

We’ve been blessed, we’ve been lucky, or just call it fate.

But whatever it is-- that feeling will stay

Altered Item Swap @ Marianna's House

I made this fun card today. The image of the sassy girl I found in a Close to my Heart Stamp Catalog but it was far too small. So I just free-handed the design with a sharpie and then covered it in Diamond Glaze for the puffy/shine effect! I then cut it out for the full effect and added bright colors! What a fun card to make!

This is the second card I made for one of Noah's friends. Now my boys want to work in my craft room and make cards for their Papa who just had a stroke. I never let them in, It is off limits usually but I think this would be a great way to help them feel better about what their Papa is going through. I cant wait to see what they come up with! Do I have any Man paper?
P.S. Papa is home but needs a lot of love, prayers and physical therapy.

I never make boy cards! I am so girly it is hard to put on a different hat and make something boyish. I bought this paper at Tally Scrapper they had a big sale and it was 50% off. I bought one sheet and made two cards for the boys to use for parties they have been invited t0.

For the summer months we decided to take out swaps out to dinner! We also decided that because the summer is always busy, that we would each make just one card, and draw names to see who gets whose.

Summer Sun

I had so much fun making this card! I worked in my craft room trying to create something for a contest for summer cards and all I could think of was the sun. After all what is summer without the sun! I loved using the layering technique and using the scraps for the rays. I have been camping at the beach all week in Coronado and sitting on the beach reminded me to post this little bit of sunshine!

This is one of my favorite teacher gifts. It is a simple way to say thanks and give a kick off to their summer vacation. ( which my Adam's teacher needs after having so many busy boys in class this year). The gift is this a summer bucket with thier name in vinyl-of course- on the front. I then fill it with fun stuff for summer. This year I put in a magazine, a Fuse drink, sunscreen, Bath and Body works lotion, a cute note pad, and a fun new summer kitchen towel. I added a cute tag with leftovers from the graduation card I made the other day and attached with cute summer ribbon.

This is a quick card I made for my niece's graduation. I have had this cute paper piecing pattern since my now 14 year old graduated from preschool. I knew I would use it again :) I just love it!

I love that this card is a little edgy like my niece Brittany! She is always doodling in notebooks and this Sassafras paper fits her perfectly! I love wings and I used a little Fragments charm by idea-ology. This was fun to make and I know she will love it!

Here is a little birthday card that I made for my sister's birthday. I used some patterned paper from the Making Memories Just Chillin teen collection, along with a Sassafrass Lass Felt bird. This simple layout is fun and eye catching. Hope you like it!

A Sneak Peak

So we are almost done with our playroom/teenroom...I am soo excited! I have waited 9 years to get to this project..but our house has so many projects this one took a back burner. Now that my kids are getting older (insert sad face) we decided it was time to make it more FRIENDly for the older kids. We have spent hours trying to figure out what to put in the room and finally saturday I found the most fabulous fabric to bring the whole room together. Fabric for me is as much fun as patterned paper...the possibilities are endless. So here is a peak at my fabric I can't wait to share the projects I create with it and to share the finished room pics with you.

A fun technique that I originally got from Danielle Flanders, whose work I always admire, is to use parts of mini albums to create cute shaped cards. It makes for a sturdy card base, and the shapes are always to die for. Check out this video tutorial on how to create this fun card.

I am the biggest procrastinator ever! I had to quickly get party invites out by today (before school got out!) for a big end of the year pre-school bash! Since I didn't have much time, I went the "old school" route and just hand printed the information on torn paper. My Basic Grey Skate Shoppe with coordinating paper gave me everything I needed with plenty of extras! I added some fun stitching with my sewing machine and with a few extra embellishments and ribbon - 10 invites in a snap!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Pie

2 3/4 all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter (softened)
1 1/2 cups packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
3 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 cups semisweet chocolate chips
2 cups chopped walnuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease two nine-inch pie plates; set aside.

Sift together the flour, salt, baking soda and baking powder in a large bowl. In the bowl with an electric mixer, cream together butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar. Next, add one egg at a time, beating until incorporated. Beat in vanilla. Add flour mixture, a little at a time, and mix until fully combined. Fold in three cups of chocolate chips and if desired, walnuts. Divide the dough between the prepared pie plates and smooththe tops with a spatula.

Bake for about 30 minutes or until pies are golden and slightly firm to the touch, but still soft. Let pies cool completely on a wire rack. These tend to "bubble up" while baking, so I like to place them on a cookie sheet in the oven.
